Give the designer a chance to succeed
by Ka Wai Cheung
I found the most poorly designed thing ever. This garage-parking-pay-machine in Chicago's UIC district.

I've always wanted to crack open the cover of this machine to figure out why the display, coin slot, ticket slot, and dollar bill slot are positioned where they are. As confusing as this looks, I'm not sure you can do a much better job designing the instructions around its controls.

Give the user and the designer a chance to succeed.
